Greece-Like Riots Exploding In California…What's Your Plan B?
I thought I would comment on the riot that happened in Berkeley, California over the weekend for the benefit of anyone who may have missed it. According to the article, “Here’s What You Need to Know About The Greece-Like Riots Exploding in California“, there was a gathering in Berkeley California mostly by students to promote awareness of state-wide protest in Californian coming up on March 4th, 2010. Unfortunately, the event got a bit out of hand and eventually lead to a clash with the Berkeley Police Department. Although the title of the article seems a bit alarmist and perhaps exaggerated, it does beg the question, “What’s your Plan B if social unrest/riots become common place in the US?”
I have pondered this question long before this weekend’s riot in Berkeley and subsequently started thinking about suitable places to live outside of the US. So I began the development of my Plan B with the goal of getting my family to safety in the event social unrest starts up here in the US. Preferably, I would like to execute my plan before anarchy is running wild across the United States. I am checking out a book called, The Urban Survivalist Guide. Of course, I will let you know what I think of it.
As part of my research, I subscribed to International Living Magazine to see what’s out there. I have received some issues and special reports on certain cities/towns that seem very appealing( beautiful, safe, and up to 60%-70% cheaper than living in the US). Coincidently, I recently made arrangements for a vacation/scouting trip to checkout out one of their recommendations and collect some data first hand. International Living provides you with contacts all over the world that are very helpful in answering all sorts of questions before, during, and after planning a visit. They even provide tours, support, free phone calls back to the US in some areas.
Although we mostly discuss gold/silver investments on GoldStockMania.com, I believe it is imperative to protect yourself and family in the event the unthinkable happens right here in the US. The vast majority of states are on the verge of bankruptcy, not to mention the Federal government too. The US is still a great place to live, but there are many who will argue that it is no longer the best place to live. I plan to do a review on International Living in the near future.
